I’m posting this from my cell, so if the formatting looks a bit different, I apologize.

quick update

I have had many many many folks reach out requesting I dig into other organizations. I am tracking these requests and am hopeful to one day get to each.

For those that may not know me personally, I have a day job, I’m married, and I have little ones. I do research and write in what little free time I have. So, when it comes to choosing projects, I have to be careful with my time.

My technique is a bit messy, but these are the general questions I’ll ask myself before I cover an organization:

  • Is there a strong public interest?

  • Is there a fun aspect to the story? This is entirely subjective, but an example of what I consider “fun” is Jared Lyon having a gaggle of men, acting as a security detail, escort him around events like he’s the Pope. Kate Monroe literally changing her last name from Eatmon to Monroe and modeling herself after Marilyn Monroe — that’s fun.

  • Is there a well documented history of questionable spending or illicit/criminal behavior?

  • Do I reasonably believe covering an issue will have an impact?

If I can say yes to those four questions, I will typically take on an organization. Oftentimes, I’ll start researching long before I write.

So, for those asking, I am presently working on or are planning to publish on:

  • Blue Star Families

  • Wreaths Across America

  • Psych Armor

I am always working on:

  • Save Our Allies

  • The Independence Fund

  • The American Legion

  • VetComm (and the 183 organizations with which Kate Monroe is involved)

If you view my Substack on a webpage, I try to keep my pieces organized under the organization they cover. However, many overlap. The veteran grift is an infectious circle jerk, most easily displayed through Nick Palmisciano’s involvement with many of the organizations I cover, so often times, it helps to read each story.

Over the holidays, I will be releasing alot of the overdue pieces.

If there’s an organization I haven’t listed that you want me to dig into, let me know.
